Set Review ➟ LEGO® Ninjago Dragons Rising Sets 71849 Nya vs. Mutation Monster Spinner and 71850 Lloyd vs. Earth Monster Spinner
Essentially replacing similar sets from 2025, 71823 Kai’s Dragon Spinjitzu Spinner and 71824 Sora’s Dragon Spinjitzu Spinner—minus a small dragon assembly and the Spinjitzu label—are 2026’s Ninjago Dragons Rising Sets 71849 Nya vs. Mutation Monster Spinner and 71850 Lloyd vs. Earth Monster Spinner sets. Each set is comprised of a spinner and launcher assembly and two minifigures. Balancing the 2025 sets where the heroes rode the spinners, this time out the villains get the rides.

The launchers are identical in parts and build (but not colors) to the 2025 versions with the exception that two 1x1 round plates are swapped out for white 1x1 plates with tooth (part 49668) at the ends of the launchers and two 1x1 round tiles with eye prints are added to the finger grips. These small changes, I am sure, is to make sure that everyone—make no mistake—can recognize these two launchers as consummate evil ones.

The spinner assemblies use the same spinner base as the 2025 versions, but the dragon side attachments have a new design.

Set 78149 figures Mutation Monster and Nya (left) with set 71850 figures Lloyd and Earth Monster (right).
While Nya and Mutation Monster figures are available in other sets in this early 2026 wave, Lloyd and Earth Monster seem to be unique so far. Lloyd is available in the 71859 Dragon of Life set but with a different hat. Earth Monster is available in three other sets, but uses the 7551 claw/hat piece (included here as a weapon) as a hat. This is the only set where Earth Monster uses the 78940 “Korg” rock hat.

The Lloyd and Nya heads in my set are part 3626, the Lloyd print having been seen in over 60 previous sets and Nya once in 2017, so I guess LEGO still has some tubs of the older mold hanging around. Earth Monster has a 3274.
The 78940 Korg rock hat appears here for the first time in dark tan.
Summary
Individually the sets are fun but I would suggest that the pair is better. While one may delight in a glorified top on its own, having a pair that can battle is significantly more fun. A battle with a spinner against a lone minifigure can be entertaining—and face it who does not delight in seeing Lloyd propelled across the room—but it’s not much of a battle.
