Set Review ➟ LEGO® 75439 - Darth Vader bust
Let’s see how this new set dedicated to busts turns out. This time it’s the Darth Vader bust set, set 75439, with 349 pieces and a minifigure of the character included. It is priced at €49.99, which is quite a bit more than set 75438, the Yoda bust. Like that set, this one is also for 18+.
The contents: just 3 bags and the instruction manual.
The first thing is to build the minifigure. Unless there’s something different compared to previous versions, I’d say it isn’t a new minifigure.
The downside is identical to that of the Yoda bust set. Here too you can choose whether to place the minifigure on the stand or leave it outside. I’m once again opting for the latter.
This bust has little or nothing to do with the previous one. Here the build is straightforward, but the end result is quite spectacular. The fit between the parts is delightful.
The character’s chest couldn’t be simpler. The back is very similar, except that it’s entirely made of black pieces to simulate the cape.
Once both parts are in place, the result is quite good and faithful.
Let’s take a look at the width of the chest. They’ve really managed to achieve a great look in a simple way.
From this point on, the clever techniques begin. Without a doubt, another great display of creativity and the pursuit of the best fit. All the following steps are pure spectacle. The basic parts of the helmet are assembled like this:
Once assembled, we’ll build up from here towards the helmet.
Here the central section will house the breathing apparatus, undoubtedly very interesting.
This final section is pure magic. It’s brilliant and results in a very well-executed helmet at such a small scale for the level of detail.
Darth Vader — what a fantastic piece of work!
Without a doubt, a pleasant surprise. It looked like it was going to be a trivial build and perhaps a bit dull, but not at all. The helmet is superbly executed and the final result is very good. The torso section is much simpler but very well done. It’s also sturdy, and although it’s not a model designed for play, it can certainly be handled without any issues. A set to display in any LEGO fan’s lair, and especially for Star Wars enthusiasts.
